About Austintown Dairy Inc. - delivering dairy products to Ohio for over 40 years
|
Austintown Dairy trucks are a popular site in Northeast Ohio, and rightfully so. The family owned company has been serving the area for over 40 years.
The business began in 1962 as Austintown Ice Cream. The founder, James Creighton, had many years of experience in the dairy industry before finally opening an ice cream store on Navarre Avenue in Austintown, Ohio.
“Ice Cream was all he sold during the first couple of years” said son and present co-owner of Austintown Dairy, Joe Creighton.
Joe said his father added Borden products in 1964 and began delivering after buying his first truck. In the mid 60s he moved to Mahoning Avenue and opened a restaurant and ice cream bar. The delivery aspect of the business grew and he secured many contracts with local schools for both ice cream and milk in the early 1980s.
On March 22nd, 1990, James passed away, leaving Austintown Dairy to his sons Tom and Joe. The two brothers work hard to carry on the tradition of good service and quality products as they took the business to the next level.
In 1997, Austintown Dairy made its new home on Boardman’s Bev Road. The larger facilities gave the brothers greater storage capacity and the room to facilitate growth.
Today the company has 25 employees, an office and maintenance facility, and a large refrigerator – freezer warehouse. The company owns a fleet of 17 large refrigerated trucks that cover routes in three states (Ohio, Pennsylvania, an West Virginia.) The trucks haul food from Dean Food, Borden, Blue Bunny, Reiter, Colonial Ice, Alpine Natural Springs, and Dailey’s.

Their father’s original company symbol can still be seen in the modern version of the Austintown Dairy logo, and each truck is washed once a week, as Joe adds “whether they need it or not.”
Austintown Dairy delivers to schools, restaurants, nursing homes, and many other institutions and events. The fleet runs an average of 45,000 miles per month to deliver fresh dairy products to their customers. They even support various vendors at the Canfield Fair and can be seen delivering on the midway in the early morning hours.
As for the future, Austintown Dairy is looking for slow, steady growth and will likely be around for a long time to come. Joe and Tom will carry on the tradition of great customer service and products. You might say it is one cool family-run business.
